What we do
Cohousing.com.au helps Australians understand cohousing: what it is, where it came from, how communities are formed, structured, financed and designed, and what daily life is like. We publish guides on cohousing basics, its history, Australian communities, seniors cohousing, forming a group, legal structures, finance, design and planning, decision-making, shared meals and other shared living options. Our cost splitter helps groups compare ways to share common costs.
About this domain
cohousing.com.au was previously the website of a small architecture practice working on cohousing projects. That site closed, and the domain was relaunched in 2026 as an independent guide. Every page has been written from scratch. We are not connected with the previous owner, and we don't design, develop or sell housing.
How we research
We base our guides on authoritative sources, including:
- state fair trading, co-operatives and planning agencies;
- the Australian Government's Your Home guide and the Australian Building Codes Board;
- Moneysmart and the Australian Taxation Office;
- the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute;
- cohousing networks in Australia and overseas, and reputable reference works.
We list sources on every page and show when each guide was last updated. We don't invent statistics, prices or testimonials. Read our editorial policy.
Not professional advice
Our guides are general information, not legal, financial or planning advice. Before committing money to any housing project, get independent advice from qualified professionals.
How we're funded
We may earn a commission from some links and from clearly labelled featured listings. This never affects what our guides say. See our editorial policy and feature your business page.
